BIOGRAPHY

Kyle Nielsen is a candidate for the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting at the University of Miami Frost School of Music, where he studies with Dr. Karen Kennedy. At Frost he is the senior teaching assistant for Dr. Kennedy as well as director of marketing and recording services in the choral studies program. Professionally, Kyle works with some of the leading professional choirs in the country in a variety of capacities. He currently holds the position of Conducting Apprentice as part of a groundbreaking new partnership between Seraphic Fire and the Frost School of Music. He also holds the position of Artistic Coordinator with the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, where he works directly with Artistic Director Joshua Habermann coordinating all artistic activity for events throughout the season. Kyle also sings professionally with ensembles such as Brevitas and Musica Judaica in addition to solo engagements throughout the Southeast.

Nielsen recently completed masters of music degrees in choral conducting as well as vocal performance and pedagogy at East Carolina University, where he studied conducting with Dr. Andrew Crane and voice with Mr. John Kramar. While at East Carolina he conducted the East Carolina University Collegiate Choir as well as assisted with the Women's choir, University Chorale, and award-winning East Carolina University Chamber Singers. In addition to conducting duties, he taught in the voice area as an instructor of record for undergraduate applied voice as well as group voice instruction. He also served as associate director to the Wesleyan Singers at North Carolina Wesleyan College.

Nielsen also holds a bachelors of arts degree from Southern Virginia University (Buena Vista, VA) with concentrations in music and theatre. While enrolled at Southern Virginia he created the music department internship program, which gives students the opportunity to serve in various capacities as teaching assistants in choir, voice, orchestra, and theory classes. As a part of that program, Kyle conducted the university's women's choir, Bella Voce, from the fall of '10 to the spring of '12. He also served as a teaching assistant in group voice instruction classes.
